Manhattan Real-Estate company Eychner Associates
has sold the Chateau, a landmark building on Central Park
West, for $24 million. A developer plans to restore the
building and convert it to condominiums. Architecture Charles
Coolidge Haight built the four-story, turreted structure
with five cone-shaped towers in the 1880s with funding by
John Jacob Astor. It was landmarked in 1976, but for years
has been badly in need of repair. “I think the neighborhood
will be glad to see it whole again,” Mr. Eychner says.
On the other end of town, photographer Scott Frances is
selling his four-story brick Federal townhouse in Tribeca.
Mr. Frances frequently photographs architecture for magazines
and newspapers: He’s recently photographed the New
York residences of actor Mickey Rourke and actress Claire
Danes, as well as all of Elton John’s homes, for Architectural
Digest. The asking price is 2.95 million. Diane Dunne, of
the Corcoran Group, has the listing.
